How CSN Dana’s I-CAR Canada Gold Class recognition elevates training, safety, and service
At CSN Dana’s, training and certification have always been a top priority—especially now in the age of emerging technologies. While the team achieved Gold Class recognition in 2017, Dana Alexander, manager, knew about I-CAR and its value since 1985. CSN Dana’s was Canada’s first Honda Certified Repair Facility and one of the first Volvo Body and Paint Certified Centers in 2010. The team then proceeded to pursue Gold Class recognition in 2017 to ensure that everyone stays up to date with the latest technologies and provides the best service possible.

What motivated you to pursue Gold Class certification for your business?
Being I-CAR Canada Gold Class recognized is the only way our team will learn about the latest technologies, updates, and safe repair procedures. I have always encouraged my team to enroll in I-CAR Canada courses—not only does it help them hone in on their craft and achieve Platinum recognition, but it gives them confidence in knowing that their repairs are to the original equipment manufacturer’s (OEMs) recommendations. Additionally, being I-CAR Canada Gold Class recognized benefits our estimators and repair planners when they are writing an estimate or explaining the process to the vehicle owner and the insurance company.
Currently, what are the biggest challenges in today’s industry?
One of the challenges we see is the new technology and materials in today’s vehicles. For instance, new materials, such as aluminum, ultra-high strength steel, and carbon fibre are used in many new vehicles, so knowing how to handle and safely repair these vehicles to manufacturers’ specifications is crucial. By taking I-CAR Canada training, our technicians and estimators stay informed and educated.
What would you say is the most important aspect of continuous collision training?
The key to effective continuous collision training is to keep pace with new developments. As vehicle technology advances, new materials, repair techniques, and safety systems emerge, making it incredibly important for collision repair professionals to stay up to date with the latest repair procedures. Without continuous collision training, estimators and technicians can fall behind on proper repair procedures, leading to inefficiencies, costly mistakes, and safety concerns.
How has being Gold Class certified benefitted your business and employees?
Achieving Gold Class Certification opens the door to additional OEM certification programs, enhancing our expertise and credibility. It also demonstrates to our customers and insurance partners that we are highly trained and equipped to repair today’s complex vehicles according to manufacturer standards, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.
