What it means to be a young professional in the aftermarket: Spotlight on Patrick Verriet

March 28, 2019

Patrick Verriet’s profile puts a highlight on the “young” part of the Young Professionals in the Aftermarket (YPA) Committee. He’s the youngest person on his team. But what’s notable is that he is already looking ahead to when he’ll be the oldest. And for Patrick, the YPA Committee is key to making sure our industry continues to attract new talent.

Patrick Verriet

Manager of Marketing and Communications

Company: MANN + HUMMEL Filtration Technology

Years in the Automotive Aftermarket Industry: 3

How long have you worked in the automotive aftermarket?

I think I’m still considered a baby in this industry. I have enjoyed almost 3 years in a sales role within the automotive aftermarket with no prior automotive industry experience.

What does the Young Professionals in the Aftermarket Committee mean to you and what would you like to see the committee achieve in the future?

I think active participation in your industry is very important. Not only is it important to keep your company and the products that you sell visible, connected, and at the forefront of the industry, it’s also important to show your customers that your company is actively involved in the industry and invested in their business. YPA Committee also offers a great way to network with other companies within the aftermarket.

Lastly, I’m the youngest person on my team across Canada. My future success also depends on the continuity of success for the aftermarket and one way of doing that is to ensure we have a steady, vibrant pool of talent supporting the aftermarket industry.

Have you had an industry mentor?

One of the first things I realized when I joined the aftermarket was the breadth of knowledge within the industry. The opportunity for mentorship and learning is out there, and should not be missed.

If I had to pinpoint one mentor, it would be my father, Bert Verriet. My dad very recently retired after 34 years of service but the last three of those years, the time in which I joined the aftermarket, were awesome. Although we both worked in different areas for the same company, he was a great sounding board both in and out of the office.
