The Automotive Industries Association of Canada (AIA Canada) is pleased to announce the release of the 2018 Outlook Study. This report provides a comprehensive picture of the current aftermarket industry, as well as forecasts and trends that will impact the aftermarket in the future.
The Outlook Study is an useful tool for businesses, both large and small, to plan for the coming year.
Key takeaways from the study:
- In 2017, the Canadian light vehicle aftermarket was valued at an all-time record of $21.6 billion, beating the previously documented record of $21.0 billion in 2015.
- A total of 18.4 million registered light vehicles are 6 years or older - the largest recorded number of vehicles that are likely out of their manufacturer's warranty period.
- Employment in the aftermarket sector in 2017 is up 1.6 percent from 2016, bringing the approximate number of people employed to 398,800.
While the outlook for the aftermarket is experiencing growth, fuelled by a rapidly expanding vehicle fleet, the study notes that ride sharing, alternative powertrains and other "disruptors" can have a substantial impact on the future of the automotive aftermarket industry.
